Director, Membership

Dave Kappus was promoted to Director of Membership in May 2010. He directs all functional and operational activities in the department, including the efficient completion of new member, organ transplant program and key personnel change applications; advancing assessment and involvement strategies designed to improve member program performance; ensuring membership database accuracy and reliability; and assisting any individual seeking guidance and information regarding the transplant system and its enterprises. As one of two primary liaisons to the Membership and Professional Standards Committee (MPSC), he serves as a bylaw/policy resource and transplant subject matter expert to the Committee's leadership.

He joined UNOS in September 2006 as the Assistant Director of Membership and served as a process designer and quality improvement champion culminating in the department achieving and maintaining ISO certification. His role expanded in January 2007 to include overseeing the membership area in the reconfigured department of policy, membership and regional administration (PMR). His 28 years of transplant experience include technical and management roles in histocompatibility testing, organ procurement and healthcare finance.

Kappus received a bachelor's of science degree in biology from The Ohio State University and a masters of administrative science from The Johns Hopkins University.
