 United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) has renewed its federal contract to operate the national Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN).
7/5/2013Vascular Composite Allografts to be added to OPTN Final Rule and National Organ Transplant Act definitions of organs
 In a Federal Register Notice published July 3, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that vascular composite allografts (VCAs) will be added to the definition of organs covered by federal regulation (the OPTN Final Rule) and legislation (the National Organ Transplant Act). This designation is effective July 3, 2014.

 Patty Jo Herndon of Chelsea, Mich., has received the 2013 National Donor Memorial Award for Excellence for her volunteer efforts to promote organ, eye and tissue donation since 1997. 
6/10/2013OPTN/UNOS Executive Committee approves discretionary listing of pediatric lung transplant candidates
 The OPTN/UNOS Executive Committee, meeting by conference call, approved a revision to national lung allocation policy affecting transplant candidates age 11 or younger.

5/17/2013UNOS Researchers Present Studies at American Transplant Congress
 United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) staff members authored and will present several studies at the American Transplant Congress (ATC), a joint meeting of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Society of Transplantation held May 18-22 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center.
