UNOS Awarded for Launch of Patient Information Web site
Richmond, VA - The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) received a Medallion Award at the 53rd annual Virginia Public Relations Awards Competition June 28 for the development and launch of the Transplant Livingsm Web site, part of the UNOS online presence which also includes UNOS' main Web site (http://www.unos.org).
UNOS won the award in the category of E-communications. The judges, drawn from the South Carolina Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, praised the development of Transplant Living and UNOS' efforts to publicize it among a number of key audiences.
Transplant Livingsm encourages and empowers transplant patients to take an active role in their medical care. It addresses many common informational questions and includes the Transplant Patient DataSourcesm , a comprehensive compilation of transplant data down to the level of individual transplant centers. It was designed in consultation with advisory panels of transplant patients and professionals.
Transplant Living was featured at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., in September 1999. UNOS also publicized the site extensively on the main UNOS homepage as well as through its member publication, exhibits at key transplant society meetings and a mailing to transplant professionals who have the most direct contact with patients being evaluated or listed for transplantation. more than 100,000 visitors have accessed the site since its launch.
UNOS maintains the U.S. organ transplant waiting list and brings together medical professionals, transplant recipients and donor families to develop organ allocation policy under contracts with the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. UNOS also collects, analyzes and publishes more data on a single field of medicine than any other U.S. organization.
