UNOS statement regarding death of Jesica Santillan

The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is saddened by the death of Jesica Santillan. The entire transplantation network strives to save lives and provide long-term benefit for all people awaiting transplants in the U.S. We are affected by all deaths that occur among people on the transplant waiting list or those who recently received a transplant.

UNOS continues its mission to meet the needs of more than 80,000 men, women and children who are in need of a transplant nationwide. UNOS also continues to investigate the circumstances of Ms. Santillan's first transplant. Our goal is to ensure the effectiveness of the transplant system and prevent errors that may pose additional health risks to transplant recipients.
