Bulgarian Officials, Transplant Professionals Visit UNOS

Representatives from Bulgarian transplant programs and transplant professional organizations and the Bulgarian government visited UNOS Nov. 24 to learn more about the U.S. organ transplant system and discuss opportunities for information exchange and assistance.

"We welcome the chance to share with the world our processes and our views on the challenges we face in transplantation," said UNOS Executive Director Walter Graham. "While every nation has some unique concerns, we find common ground on many issues and have an opportunity both to teach and to learn from each other's experiences."

The U.S. organ allocation and transplant data systems are often considered a worldwide model for excellence. In its 25-year history, UNOS has hosted visitors or met with transplant representatives from approximately 20 nations. Recent visitors or contacts have included transplant experts from Canada, Great Britain, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain and Vietnam.
