Carl Berg

Carl L. Berg, M.D., is interim chief and professor in medicine for the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Virginia (U.Va.) Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville.

For more than 10 years, Dr. Berg has served numerous terms on various OPTN/UNOS committees. He is a member and vice-chair of the OPTN/UNOS membership and professional standards (MPSC) committee as well as its policy compliance subcommittee and performance and certification work group; he previous served as chair the MPSC's data subcommittee. He has been a member of the review board (liver) for his region since 1997.

In addition, he serves as co-chair for the adult-to-adult living donor liver transplant cohort study (A2ALL), funded by the National Institutes of Health. He recently directed the review course for transplant hepatology board certification through the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

Dr. Berg earned his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., completed his medical residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and his fellowship training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
