George E. Loss Jr., M.D., Ph.D., is chief of transplant services and medical director of the transplant unit at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans and medical director of the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency in Metairie, La.

Dr. Loss is member of the OPTN/UNOS membership and professional standards (MPSC) committee and its data subcommittee and performance and certification work group; he previously served on its performance metrics work group. He is a member of the review board (liver) for his region, a position he has held since 1999. He also has served on the OPTN/UNOS living donor committee.

In addition to his OPTN/UNOS service, he has been a member of the programs, publications and postgraduate committee of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and of the kidney–pancreas committee of the American Society of Transplantation.

Dr. Loss earned a medical degree at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and a doctorate in immunology at the University of Chicago.
