Michael D. Voigt, M.B.Ch.B., is medical director of liver transplantation at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

He is a member of the OPTN/UNOS membership and professional standards (MPSC) committee as well as its data subcommittee and its performance and certification work group. He also is a member of the review board (liver) for his region, a position he has held since 1997. He previously served on the MPSC's performance metrics work group.

In addition to his OPTN/UNOS service, he has been on the grants committee of the American Society of Transplantation. He also has served on the liver transplant committee of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

Dr. Voigt earned his medical degree from Pretoria University and a master's degree in medicine from the University of Cape Town, both in South Africa. He was part of the team that initiated the successful liver transplant program in Cape Town in 1988.
