David E. Burgio, M.P.A., LFACHE, was president/CEO of Berea Hospital in Berea, Ky., and of Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, Ky; he retired in 2002. Burgio is a kidney recipient.

He served as chair of the OPTN/UNOS patient affairs committee; he also has served on the policy advisory group to the OPTN/UNOS executive committee.

He is a board member of Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA), a position he has held since 1998, and currently is chair of its finance and investment committee. He served as chair of the board of directors of the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) and received KHA's award of excellence; he also won the American College of Healthcare Executives' (ACHE's) volunteer excellence award.

Burgio earned a master of public administration degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He is an ACHE Life Fellow (LFACHE).
