Mary Nachreiner

Mary J. Nachreiner, PT, is a community/family services specialist at the University of Wisconsin Hospital organ procurement organization.

Nachreiner is co-chair of the National Donor Memorial advisory committee, helping to guide the development of the memorial. She also served a two-year term on the education committee of the Division of Transplantation and assisted in the development of a national organ donation curriculum with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In addition, she is member of the Wisconsin Coalition on Donation and a frequent speaker at both the state and national level on organ and tissue donation.

A donor mother, Nachreiner and her family initiated and lobbied for the passage of a bill requiring all high-school driver education programs in Wisconsin to include at least 30 minutes of instruction on organ donation. Former governor of Wisconsin Tommy Thompson signed the Kelly Nachreiner bill into law in 2000. As secretary of HHS, Thompson adopted the law as a national model for his National Gift of Life Donation Initiative.

Nachreiner earned a bachelor of science degree in physical therapy from Marquette University in Milwaukee.
