David Vega

J. David Vega, M.D., is associate professor of surgery and director of the adult heart transplant program at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.

Dr. Vega is chair of the OPTN/UNOS thoracic organ transplantation committee and on its heart sequence task force. He is member of the review board (heart) for his region. He also has served on the OPTN/UNOS policy oversight committee, the OPTN/UNOS membership and professional standards committee and its data subcommittee, and the DSA productivity task force.

He is a member of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation (ACOT). He is a member of the thoracic organ transplantation committee of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and is the ASTS' representative to the American College of Surgeons advisory council for cardiothoracic surgery. He has been a member of the ad hoc committee on circulatory support and thoracic transplantation of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and the STS' workforce on surgical treatment of end-stage cardiopulmonary diseases. Dr. Vega has served on the LifeLink Foundation board of governors.

He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor.
