Director, Patient Affairs

Bill Lawrence, a 1988 liver recipient, was named the Director of Patient Affairs in 1995. His primary focus is to ensure that the special needs of patients on the waiting lists and donor families are considered by the committees and executives of UNOS on a daily basis. He is also responsible for monitoring all policy-making activities, representing UNOS to the public, and advising UNOS members and executives regarding Congressional affairs.

Prior to joining UNOS, Mr. Lawrence worked for the House of Representatives as chief counsel of the Government Operations Subcommittee on Legal and Monetary Affairs and as chief of staff for the Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control. He was also director of the U.S. Customs Office of Congressional Affairs.

Mr. Lawrence received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar and former vice-president of the Capitol Hill Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
