A new resource brochure addresses common questions potential kidney transplant candidates have about the process for seeking a kidney transplant evaluation and listing.
The brochure is most appropriate for people who have recently developed end-stage renal failure or who may soon encounter it. It encourages them to begin considering a transplant evaluation before needing dialysis, ideally when their GFR is between 25 and 30. It also addresses generalities about medical issues that may affect transplant eligibility, while encouraging them to contact a transplant program for a more detailed assessment.A Spanish-language version of the brochure is in development and will be made available soon.
The brochure was developed to complement the educational guidance document on kidney transplant referral developed by the OPTN/UNOS Minority Affairs Committee, with additional review and input from the OPTN/UNOS Patient Affairs Committee.
