RICHMOND, VA–United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) hired Mike Pressendo as Director of Communications. UNOS manages the nation’s transplant system, the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), under contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Services and Resources Administration.
Pressendo will lead a comprehensive communications department including media and external relations, member relations, reputation and image building, brand management, web services and social media, design services and internal communications. He will work with leadership to produce a communications strategy for the organization and orchestrate the plan for sharing UNOS’ lifesaving message.
“Mike is a highly accomplished communications professional with strong experience with national nonprofit organizations. His creativity and experience will help UNOS spread the message of the importance of organ donation,” said UNOS CEO Brian Shepard.
Before joining UNOS, Pressendo was most recently the Vice President of Communications for The Federal Reserve National IT, the largest entity within the Federal Reserve System. Previously he led marketing and fundraising efforts at ChildFund International during its rebranding from Christian Children’s Fund and branding and marketing at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. He also held leadership positions with Aetna, Adcom Communications and Gordon C. James Public Relations.
Pressendo earned his Bachelors of Science in organizational communications from Arizona State University in Phoenix. He also holds a certificate in Spanish and bilingual multicultural studies from Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
