Kidney paired donation (KPD) is a transplant option for those waiting for a kidney transplant. It is for patients who have a willing living donor who is incompatible. Learn more about paired donation now *

United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is developing a national KPD system. UNOS, as the OPTN contractor, will administer this system and it will be open to all OPTN/UNOS-approved transplant programs that perform living donor kidney transplants.

To help prepare for the final implementation, UNOS will begin an interim implementation of the KPD Pilot Program in September 2009. The interim implementation will allow UNOS staff to gain experience with KPD and refine its business processes before rolling out the full system in 2010.

In this Request for Proposal (RFP), UNOS, as the OPTN contractor, is seeking members experienced in kidney paired donation who will be able and willing to help UNOS refine its business processes in the development of a national KPD system. The intent of this interim implementation is to identify and address inefficiencies before the system is released for participation by any interested OPTN and UNOS member.
