Fall 2005 Newsletter
Welcome to Karen Mock. Karen is a social worker who received her MSW from VCU. She spent her high school years in Delaware, but grew up primarily in Texas. Karen's background is largely in direct services with child, adolescent, and adult victims of abuse. She has also enjoyed working part-time at a vet clinic and is truly an animal lover. Karen’s nine year old mutt, Hailey, has the energy of a puppy, so they like to burn up some energy on the trails along the James River. She's an adventuress and is always looking to try something new, i.e. join a sports team, take an art class, volunteer, etc. She says she is looking forward to working with patients and their families in the Patient Services Department and the Professional Services Department is certainly glad to have her. Amanda Pfeiffer says farewell to UNOS. After four years with UNOS, Amanda Pfeiffer is moving to the Seattle area. She recently became engaged and is going to figure out where she is and how to get around first before she starts to pursue another career. Amanda was the UNOS Patient Services Coordinator and also served as the staff liaison to the OPTN/UNOS Patient Affairs Committee, the OPTN/UNOS Social Work Advisory Council and the OPTN/UNOS Ad Hoc Living Donor Quality of Life Subcommittee. Good Luck to Amanda!!! UNOS Merchandise. If you haven't checked out the UNOS Product Catalog recently you will now find that UNOS has t-shirts, ball caps, denim shirts, tote bags and sweatshirts. The Transplant Living t-shirt has become very popular recently. Other items celebrate the National Donor Memorial and UNOS. Check it out in the Merchandise section. - Marian PROFESSIONAL SERVICES EXHIBITS AND MEETINGS North American Transplant Coordinators Organization (NATCO). Answers to these and similar questions can be found in an annotated bibliography that was compiled by UNOS' Health Sciences Librarian and has been published by the Medical Library Association (MLA). Organ Transplantation: Bibliography and Guide to Information Resources (MLA BibKit #11), is available for $23.00 (print, spiral bound), or for $16.00 (PDF version) through MLA's Online Store. If you have purchased a copy of the bibliography, your comments are welcomed by Lorraine and can be addressed to her by email at sitlerlc@unos.org. - Lorraine October is National Medical Librarians Month. The Medical Library Association was founded on May 2, 1898, by four librarians and four physicians. The Medical Library Association (MLA) is the second oldest special library association in the United States. The Association of Medical Librarians (as it was known until 1907) was founded "to encourage the improvement and increase of public medical libraries." Nearly a century later, MLA has grown to a professional organization of more than 1,200 institutions and 3,800 professionals in the health information field. MLA has a variety of programs to serve the needs of health information specialists. - Lorraine |
